What is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist?
|
A Certified Employee Benefit Specialist is one who has achieved significant competence in
employee benefits work, having passed a series of national examinations covering those
disciplines essential to a comprehensive education in the design and administration of
employee benefit plans. The CEBS designation has been attained by more than 2,000 benefit
practitioners. CEBS graduates are recognized by their colleagues, clients, and employers as
experts in the benefits field.
The Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) program provides intensive, college-level
instruction in the design and operation of employee benefit plans. The courses provide an
excellent opportunity for practitioners to stay abreast of current practices and for other business
professionals to satisfy continuing professional education requirements. They also met
requirements leading to the completion of the CEBS designation. See curriculum.
What is the Future of the Employee Benefits Field and the CEBS Program?
The employee benefits field has grown tremendously in recent years. Benefits in many
companies now consume approximately forty percent of total compensation. Since managing
these vast resources has become a tremendous responsibility, many employers are looking for
CEBS graduates to fill positions in their benefits departments and are encouraging their
present employees to enroll in the program and work toward certification. It is predicted that
there will be many future opportunities for qualified individuals.
CEBS Designation
The CEBS program offers benefits and compensation professionals several levels of
certification, all stamped with the CEBS mark of excellence. The body of knowledge within the
CEBS program focuses on group benefits, retirement and compensation. Each tract delivers
specialized knowledge in its own unique area and leads to a specialty designation following
completion of the required number of courses. When combined, the three tracks form a
comprehensive, integrated curriculum in total compensation. To earn the prestigious CEBS
credential, candidates must complete eight courses - six required and two elective. See
curriculum.
Specialty Designations
To earn a specialty designation, candidates must complete the required courses within each
track. All of the specialty track courses may also be applied toward earning the CEBS
designation. See curriculum.
