“Employee Plans Correction Resolution System”

Speaker:
Mary Komornicka, CEBS, ISCEBS Fellow – Attorney, Larkin Hoffman Law Firm

Retirement plans are complex, with many moving parts and many players with interlocking responsibilities. As a result, errors often happen. Whether small or major, they need to be corrected. While we have IRS guidance on how to correct some errors, these rules are not simple to follow and not all situations are covered. This session will explore the different errors that can occur and the proper process for correcting them, using several real-world examples, and will provide tips for plan sponsors and service providers.

Please join our Chapter as Mary helps us:
*  Understand the provisions of the IRS EPCRS
*  Understand proper ways to correct various plan errors under the self-correction and VCP processes
*  Understand best practices to prevent or mitigate plan errors

Speaker Information:
Mary Komornicka focuses her practice in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation, including 401(k) and 403(b) plans, health plans, ESOPs, deferred compensation plans and stock appreciation rights. She works with clients in the design of plans, resolving problems that arise in the operation of a plan, and in overall compliance with the regulations that impact these plans.

Mary has a well-rounded perspective on benefit plans. She began her career as a corporate benefits manager and then shifted to working for providers including IDS/American Express and Richard Bank & Trust, later acquired by M&I. She took the opportunity to then go to law school and leverage her years of experience by specializing in ERISA.
